Resistance is normal, especially when it comes to a big change.
Everybody experiences their weight loss journey differently, and a big part of change is being able to surrender control. If you have ever yo-yo dieted, you've most likely been bombarded with a ton of misinformation about "healthy eating" -- and you've probably discovered most of the guru advice hasn't worked. Sure, maybe you temporarily lost some weight, but not for long. That diet did not work for you because you need to change your lifestyle, not just your diet. You need to reset your brain from all the noise you've been subjected to around weight loss, surrender control, and try a new method - one that works.
We know that it's scary. We're here to answer any and all questions you might have.
Why Are The Carbs So High?
Low carb diets work for weight loss...for a little bit. But they're not sustainable. If you've tried them before, you probably dropped weight quickly, but then found it difficult to keep eating this way, right?
Low carb diets set you up for failure. Why? Because your body NEEDS carbs in order to function properly.
The problem isn't carbohydrates. It's the type of carbohydrates you're eating that impacts your health and weight.
Whole carbohydrates are a necessary component of a well-rounded diet and actually contribute to weight loss and stable blood sugars thanks to the high fiber content. Fiber is a carbohydrate (yep - a carb!) only found in plant-based foods that adds bulk to our diet, keeping us full longer and regulating our blood sugar.
A high fiber diet aids in healthy weight loss lowers cholesterol, keeps bowels regular, and reduces the risk of serious chronic illness like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.
Refined carbohydrates - like those found in most chips, pastries, pizza, etc. - have been stripped of their nutrients and fiber. Not to mention, they're often smothered with oil, butter, sugar, and cheese - all of which make weight loss hard to come by.
So while refined carbohydrates are not part of a whole food plant-based lifestyle or any long-term weight loss plan, diets that limit the number of whole carbohydrates you consume are dangerous and unsustainable.
Fun fact: The keto diet, a trending low carb diet, was not invented as a sustainable route to weight loss. It came about in an effort to help children with epilepsy. These children were to be closely monitored by a doctor and fed a large variety of supplements daily to make up for what they lost by avoiding carbohydrates.
The MamaSezz Weight Loss Bundle provides whole carbs, nothing refined, so that you are able to digest your food properly, form healthy gut bacteria, and have the energy to do the things you love...without feeling deprived.

Is there a lot of fat in this plan?
Compared to most diets, the fat content in a whole food plant-based diet is actually quite low!
While some diets promote the consumption of excess fat (those that often result in long term cardiovascular conditions) we recommend just the right amount.
Some fats are healthy, especially those that are unsaturated. Animal fat harbors toxins contains cholesterol and contributes greatly to heart disease. Healthy plant-based fats are essential for brain function. For instance, Omega-3 fatty acids contribute to healthy functions all over your body:
- Skin Health: Omega-3s maintain your skin's structure by reducing inflammation while preventing damage from external factors.
- Brain Health: Helps to prevent Alzheimer's disease and reduce the symptoms of depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and ADHD.
- Eye Health: DHA is an important part of your retina and a lack of it can cause serious vision problems, including macular degeneration.
- Heart Health: Omega-3s can reduce plaque buildup, triglycerides, blood clots, and inflammation while reducing blood pressure in increasing your HDL (good cholesterol) levels.
- Anti-inflammatory: Reduce inflammation, one of the main causes of disease and premature aging.
- Other benefits of Omega-3s: Joint and Bone Health, promote healthy cognitive function in early development, autoimmune prevention and repair, reduce cancer risk
Reducing the number of healthy fats you consume can contribute to weight loss, so MamaSezz has come up with a low-calorie program with just the right amount of fat to keep your body functioning properly.
Is Fruit Sugar bad for you?
Ever wonder why apple juice makes a 5-year-old bounce off the walls but feeding them an apple doesn’t? It’s all about refined sugars vs. whole sugars…and what it really boils down to is fiber content.
Refined sugar typically comes from sugar cane or sugar beets. Wait a minute...that sounds pretty darn plant-based doesn’t it? Well, not so fast.
To make these refined sugars, everything goes through an extraction and purification process, and the fiber and nutrients of the sugar cane or sugar beet are lost. Fiber stabilizes blood glucose levels by slowing the rate of absorption of that sugar into your bloodstream.
This lack of fiber is why your energy spikes and dips when you drink a soda but not so much when you eat a whole food source of sugar, like a banana (which has 14 grams of natural sugar, by the way!). The fiber in the banana regulates the way your body processes that sugar and lets you use the energy in a more sustainable way. Not to mention bananas, and other whole foods, are packed with nutrients to help fuel your body and reduce your risk for many of the serious chronic diseases that refined sugar can bring on, like...
Refined sugar is inflammatory and associated with the risk of developing health issues, like obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers like breast, prostate, uterine, colorectal and pancreatic. Plus, refined sugars are physically addictive as heck!
Will These Foods Spike My Blood Sugar?
Review the question above to learn about fruit sugars.
All sugars in MamaSezz foods are naturally sourced from whole foods. That means we use primarily fruits to sweeten our products. All of our carbohydrates are whole as well! Refined sugars and carbs tend to spike blood sugar and get stored as fat, while the natural fiber found in the whole foods help the glucose to enter the bloodstream slowly so it can be used for stable energy. Therefore, instead of spiked blood sugar, you will experience sustained energy for much longer.
When reading food labels, focus more on the ingredients to determine what kind of sugar you'll be ingesting. Do you see the words: sugar, corn syrup, dextrose, artificial sweetener? Are there words you don’t recognize or can’t pronounce?
Stick to whole foods and your blood sugar should stay stable. And if you have issues with blood sugars, including diabetes, we always recommend discussing any lifestyle changes with your health care provider.
Are the weight loss meal plans high in sodium?
Compared to the Standard American Diet, the sodium in this plan is actually quite low! MamaSezz meals are about 30% salt-free, 90% low sodium, and 0% high sodium. In combination with the supplemented fruits, veggies, beans, and grains, you will get to enjoy a low salt diet which reduces water retention, leaving you feeling less bloated and inflamed.
While it’s not recommended, you are always welcome to add salt to your dishes until you get the hang of a low-salt flavor (and you will!).
The more salt you have in your diet, the more desensitized your tastebuds become - which means you have a harder time actually tasting your food without it...at first. The good news is the less you use salt, the less you’ll need it in order for your food to taste “right.” For best results, stick to the MamaSezz Weight Loss Meal Plan provided in each bundle.
